If the Redskins want to get a long term deal finalized with quarterback Kirk Cousins, they now have some extra time. The NFL has extended the franchise tag deadline from July 15 to July 17. It was mainly a result of the calendar. July 15th falls on a Saturday. The 17th is a Monday.
Dan Snyder and Bruce Allen have expressed their interest in keeping Cousins in burgundy and gold. That interest has not equated to action. Cousins has set the team’s single season passing record in each of the last two years. Yet instead of committing to Cousins franchise quarterback status, the Redskins have opted to apply the franchise tag.
If a deal is not agreed upon by the 17th, Cousins will be on a year contract that will pay nearly 25 million dollars.
